The Uusvada residency is located in Setomaa, Uusvada, Estonia, in the rural area. The residency is run by a non-profit NGO and local artists, filmmakers, and designers. It is a unique place for the Seto people.
The purpose of staying at the residency may also be simply to shift one’s routine. We support residents’ slow-paced creativity and focus on individual art practices. Residents can engage in conversations with the public during our events to exchange thoughts that arise during their time at the residency. You will have the opportunity to learn more about Seto culture and integrate those ideas into your art practice.
The residency program is open to all artists from any country, regardless of age, gender, or medium. The program focuses on disciplines such as literature, film, contemporary art, visual arts, and handicrafts. It is also open to designers and researchers of Finno-Ugric peoples, as well as Seto culture. We will consider applications from other mediums, including creative writing, music, and dance. Please submit a resume along with a brief cover letter and samples of your work.

Studio information and fees
With a serene environment that fosters creativity, our dedication to providing a peaceful and productive experience is evident in every stay.
- Provide affordable creative space and accommodation for artists of all mediums.
- Periodically conduct cultural art events and exhibitions in partnership with various organizations and local institutions.
- Learn from and exchange creative ideas and techniques with local Indigenous artists and artisans.
- Foster and support artists in their search for environmentally sound creative methods using materials found locally.
- Offer the opportunity to visit pristine, relatively undisturbed natural areas and spend time learning about the Seto Indigenous culture in Estonia.
Studio Information
The studio is bright, spacious, and suitable for up to 2 artists or an artist group that can share the space.
Downstairs, there is a gallery where you can exhibit your art piece upon agreement.
For writers, we offer a cabinet downstairs where you can work without interruption.
Nearby, we have a sound studio that is available for rent upon agreement.

Private room.
The maximum number of guests in the two private rooms is 6 persons.
Technical Information
Internet, screening hall, gallery.
A sound studio and ceramics studio are available nearby for an extra fee.
Paid by Artist
Artists are responsible for all their incidental expenses and working materials.
Costs are by agreement; the fee amount depends on the length of stay and other conditions. Prices without special conditions are: 500 euros for 2 weeks / 800 euros for 4 weeks.
For artist groups, separate agreements will be made.
Accommodation
Uusvada Residency provides a private furnished room and an atelier area. The rooms are located on the second floor, which includes a kitchen, shower room, a separate toilet, and two bedrooms. An office space is situated on the ground floor.
Application Guidelines
To apply for the residency, briefly describe what you plan to do during your stay and indicate your preferred residency period. Include a short introduction, a CV, and 6-10 recent examples of your work or a link to your website. Please send your application to residency@uusvada.ee.
